Multiple games at once
On 31 October 2021 a bolt-on package of Remote Technical Standards took effect and erased a handful of features from British-facing casino lobbies almost overnight. Requirement RTS 14C addressed operator-led functionality which facilitates playing multiple simultaneous products. If you remember a split-screen view or a built-in multi-game panel that let you load two tables or slots on one page, and then it was simply gone, that date is the reason. The requirement was restated word for word in the update effective 17 January 2025, so the Commission’s position has not budged.

What ‘operator-led functionality’ means
The phrase draws a tight circle around what a licence holder builds, deploys, or enables inside its own software. It does not speak to generic browser behaviour. RTS 14C does not say “a player may not view more than one game”, nor does it restrict the act of opening additional windows. It says operator-led functionality which facilitates. The difference is practical. A game window embedded inside a lobby shell, a dedicated multi-play button that loads two titles side by side, or a casino’s own split-screen mode—all of those sit squarely in the operator’s control and fall under the requirement. The operator built the tool and the operator is the one the Commission addresses.
The difference between a feature and a browser tab
Compliance teams have spent considerable time on that distinction because the text gives them nothing else to work with. A punter who opens a second browser tab and logs into the same account is not using an operator-led feature; the site did not initiate it, design it, or promote it. The Commission has not published a definitive statement saying that behaviour is allowed, and it has not banned it either. What it has done is make clear that the software supplied by a licence holder must not include functionality that actively makes simultaneous play easier. That is why a number of sites quietly removed multi-table views after 2021, while stopping well short of telling players how many tabs they may keep open. The line is drawn at what the operator puts in front of the customer, not at what the customer does with a standard web browser.
Why it travels with autoplay and turbo
RTS 14C did not arrive alone. The October 2021 update also delivered RTS 8A, which clamped down on autoplay, and RTS 14E, which restricted features that speed up the time for a result to be shown. Those three requirements are a set: they all constrain the pace and intensity a gambling product can push at a player. A lobby that lets someone run three auto-spinning slots in one view is effectively multiplying speed, not just adding choice. The Commission’s decision to wrap multi-play, autoplay, and turbo-style functions into one regulatory push tells you it was thinking about the cumulative effect, even if it never spelled that out in public. The bundling was deliberate, and operators treat it as a package when they audit new releases.
Minimum spin speed pulls in the same direction
The January 2025 restatement did more than repeat RTS 14C. It introduced RTS 14G, which sets a minimum spin speed of five seconds for casino games. Peer-to-peer poker is explicitly excluded, but everything else—slots, roulette, instant-win titles—must now wait five seconds between one result and the next. That number does not directly ban multi-play, but it makes an operator-led simultaneous-game feature harder to justify commercially. If every game in a split-screen view must respect its own five-second floor, the whole pitch of “play more, faster” weakens. The 2025 update, seen alongside the unchanged RTS 14C, reads as a reinforcement of the principle that the operator’s tools should not compress time.
What a lobby looks like under the rule
Walk through a UK-licensed casino product today and you will not find an official multi-game view. Lobbies tend to launch each title in its own full-page session, and the software no longer offers to tile two live games inside the same container. Some sites still let players switch between games quickly, and a well-designed lobby can feel fluid, but the operator stops short of active facilitation. The rule is not hidden. It sits in the Remote gambling and software technical standards, applied to gambling software and remote operating licence holders—including ancillary remote betting—under licence condition 2.3.1. If a feature launches today that deliberately lets someone play two games on one screen, the operator took a gamble the Commission does not seem minded to tolerate. Whether the regulator ever addresses the browser-tab question explicitly remains open. For now, the requirement is aimed squarely at the code the operator ships, and the two dates that matter are 31 October 2021 and 17 January 2025.
Questions about simultaneous play
Am I allowed to play two slots at the same time?
RTS 14C covers operator-led functionality which facilitates playing multiple simultaneous products. It arrived with the RTS update effective 31 October 2021 and was restated in the same terms on 17 January 2025.
So what exactly does the requirement address?
Operator-led functionality — what the site itself builds to put several products in play at once. The standards bind gambling software and remote operating licence holders, including ancillary remote betting, under licence condition 2.3.1.
What else was in the 17 January 2025 update?
It set a minimum spin speed for casino games of 5 seconds, excluding peer-to-peer poker, under RTS 14G.
