Cancelling a withdrawal
You just requested a withdrawal, and now you want the money back. Not because you changed your mind about cashing out—no, you want it back in the gambling account to play. You look for a ‘cancel’ button. You refresh the cashier. You might even contact support. And nothing.
There is a reason for that. Since 31 October 2021, UK-licensed casinos have been forbidden from giving you a way to reverse a withdrawal. The button was removed by regulation, not by a product manager’s oversight. So stop hunting for a setting that cannot exist.

The button that was removed, and when
Before that date, a withdrawal request often sat in a reversible queue. Players had a window—sometimes a few hours—to cancel and return the funds to their playing balance. That window closed for good when the Gambling Commission updated its Remote Technical Standards. Requirement RTS 14B, effective 31 October 2021, explicitly removed the ability to cancel or reverse a withdrawal.
Not a guideline. Not a suggestion. A hard prohibition. Operators who kept a reverse withdrawal function after that day risked their licence.
The date is worth knowing because it wasn’t a staggered rollout. Sites flipped the switch pretty much overnight. If your muscle memory is still reaching for a cancel option that existed in 2020, that is where it went. The button is gone. The requirement itself is brief and blunt, and it leaves no room for operator discretion.
What ‘pending’ means once reversal is off the table
A withdrawal that shows as ‘pending’ can fool you. It looks unresolved, as if the decision still hangs in the air. It doesn’t. Pending means the operator is running its required checks—identity verification, source-of-funds screening, maybe a manual fraud review. It does not mean the transaction is waiting for you to confirm or undo it.
Once you submit a withdrawal, the money is earmarked for transfer to your payment method. The operator’s systems treat it as no longer part of your gambling balance. The minutes or hours it sits in a pending state are not a grace period. There is no hidden undo function that support can reveal if you ask nicely enough. The delay is operational. The decision is final.
Why money usually returns to the method you deposited with
Closed-loop payments are baked into UK gambling regulation, even if the most explicit rule about it is buried in the dormant-account requirements. Where an account with a credit deposit balance has been inactive for at least 12 months, the operator must have “attempted to repay the deposit balance to the last payment method used”. That’s an anti-money laundering and player-protection principle that spills over into ordinary withdrawals. The system wants cash to retrace its steps.
When you hit withdraw, you will almost never get a menu of destination options. The casino will send your money back to the Visa, the Mastercard, or the Skrill account you used on the way in. That’s by design. It also means you cannot cancel a withdrawal, switch the method, and reroute funds to a different wallet just because you want to. The closed loop is stubborn, and it reinforces the ban on reversal.
What support can and cannot do with a requested withdrawal
Customer support agents field this question constantly. They cannot help. The prohibition on reverse withdrawals is not a setting an operator can override for a ‘loyal’ customer or a high roller. The Commission’s rules make it clear that even a single breach invites trouble.
Live chat staff can confirm whether your documents have been approved. They might be able to give you an estimated processing time, though many operators are cagey about promising exact windows. What they cannot do is return your withdrawal to your playing balance. Some players insist the money is still in pending and therefore fair game. That’s a misunderstanding of the system architecture. From the moment you submit the request, those funds are not available for gambling. Whether they have left the operator’s bank account is beside the point. Support cannot undo what the regulation mandates.
The package this requirement sat in
Reverse withdrawal didn’t get banned in isolation. The 31 October 2021 update was a broadside against features the Commission believed accelerated harm. Alongside RTS 14B, the regulator introduced RTS 14G, which set a minimum slot spin speed of 2.5 seconds—effectively killing the turbo-charged auto-clicker play that had defined high-risk behaviour. RTS 8A banned autoplay entirely. RTS 14E prohibited features that sped up the time it took for a result to display. RTS 14F stopped operators from celebrating returns that were less than or equal to the stake; that hollow 10p win on a £2 spin no longer triggers a confetti animation. RTS 14C targeted operator-led tools that let customers play multiple products simultaneously. And RTS 2E, together with RTS 13C, forced the clear display of net spend and net time during every session.
All of these measures arrived at once. The missing cancel button wasn’t a glitch. It was part of a wholesale redesign intended to make it harder to chase losses and easier to see how much money was actually leaving your account. Nearly three years on, the button is still gone, and operators are not about to test the Commission’s tolerance by bringing it back. Your withdrawal is out of reach by design. That is precisely the outcome the regulator wanted.
Questions about withdrawals and reversals
Can I cancel a withdrawal I have already requested?
No. RTS 14B removed reverse withdrawals with effect from 31 October 2021: cancelling or reversing a withdrawal is prohibited.
Was it always like this?
No. The requirement arrived with the RTS update effective 31 October 2021 — the same update that set a minimum spin speed for slots games of 2.5 seconds and covered autoplay under RTS 8A.
What happens to money I leave in the account instead?
Where an account with a credit deposit balance has been inactive for at least 12 months, the operator must have attempted to repay the deposit balance to the last payment method used.
